Champions Crowned In RSA/PAL Flag Football Finale
Two teams were crowned this past week as the 2004-2005 RSA/PAL Flag football midget and senior division champions. Many people were behind the tremendous efforts to diligently work and support the youth that participated with flag football in the Rockaways. The midget division, was won by coach Kevin Mack and his outstanding kids from Ocean-Bey and P.S.-105. His P.S. 105 midget champion Ocean-Bey Seahawks defeated the St. Rose de Lima Rams, coached by Ms. Pat Esposito and her outstanding assistants. The Seahwaks played a tremendous game and won the Rockaway midget division championship 36-20. Congratulations to Coach Esposito and Coach Mack for great effort.
Second and definitely not least, congratulations go to the senior division champions, Coach Naron Tillman’s St. Mary’s Seahawks. This is another great story regarding the Rockaway Sports Association and one of our all time great coaches, Naron Tillman.
A ten year alumni of the R.S.A., Coach Tillman faced tremendous odds prior to this season. The team was a long shot to make the playoff but that didn’t stop coach Tillman. The St. Mary’s Seahawks practiced at least two times per week and really instilled a sense of pride, team work, and a true belief that their is no I in team.
Determined and never hanging their heads, the St. Mary’s Seahawks made it to semifinals and to the senior division championship. As heavy underdogs, they pulled the upset of the year and defeated coach Evan’s Falcons (who were the regular season champions) 42-36.
A very special thank you to one of the RSA’s worthy sponsors, Mr. Osman Cevallos, manager of Crown Chicken on Beach 20th St. He made championship day for the PS-105 Seahawks a delightful one with his donation of chickens for all after the big game!!!!! Special thanks to Alla Nesmith, parent coordinator at P.S. 105, who coordinated all of the teams.
Again, congratulations to all coaches and participants.
