USPS, Knights, Bring Safety To Seniors

Senior citizens are often concerned with their safety, particularly when carrying money on shopping trips or when running errands.

Because of that fact, on Tuesday November 30, Far Rockaway Postmaster George P. Buonocore joined Michael Gliner from the Knights of Pythias to bring a little extra safety for them at the Roy Reuther Senior Post office.

Free 911 cell phones were given to the residents of the Roy Reuther buildings for some added protection when they go out. The phones were donated from all over the city and refurbished by the Knights of Pythias to be given to those in need.

Postmaster Buonocore thought that this would be a perfect venue to give them out, since so many residents were aware of the Senior Post Office.

Gliner, representing Wavecrest Five Towns Lodge #615, said he was thrilled by the opportunity to be able to help. He said, “You never know when an emergency might happen, and these emergency phones will allow seniors to be prepared.”
