Dominican Republic AA 587 Memorial Service Fills National Cathedral

On November 12, as Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Pataki spoke to a rain swept memorial ceremony in Rockaway, hundreds of family members of those who died in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 sat in the First Cathedral of the New World in the Dominican Republic as Cardinal Nicolas Lopez Rodriguez celebrated a mass in memory of those who died in the crash. According to Hector Algarroba, who lost his parents in the crash and can be seen in the front row in this picture, the cathedral was full to capacity with family and friends of the victims.

After the service in the cathedral, family and friends moved on to the town of Benin, where a memorial to those who died was raised last year. Pictured, children at the Benin memorial ceremony.
