Tenth Annual Fishing Tournament Honors Regan

By Kevin J. Brown

This year’s tenth annual surf fishing tournament was dedicated to the memory of our good friend Mike Regan. In some of the harshest weather in tournament history, 20 of the finest and toughest fishermen showed up to brave the elements and give it a shot.

With the brutal wind and strong currents, it was impossible for the fish to hear the dinner bell. It was a different story for the participants of the tournament with the ok from Parks official, Mr. Clarke. The barbeque was fired up and a great lunch was served by Bobby Regan. We also realized you do not challenge Pauly “The Ringer” Murphy to a game of horseshoes.

There was also a visit from Ladder 121 formerly known as “the best on the beach” and now after an abrupt relocation, they are commonly referred to as “the house of pain”. We must mention John “Inwood” Bradley made his surfcasting debut on this day.

Big thanks go out to Judge George Murphy for enduring such harsh weather and to Tom Healy of “Healy’s Pub” on 108 Street for donating “all” the spirits.

The next decade of tournaments will be held on the Wednesday after Columbus Day. See everyone on Wednesday, October 12, 2005.
