St. Thomas More Finishes Remarkable Championship Run
By Pam Henderson and
On Sunday, November 14, the St. Thomas More 4th grade pee wee girls soccer team defeated Saint Francis De Sales 3-1 to earn their second consecutive fall diocesan championship (the girls defeated Sacred Heart on Saturday to earn their place in the championship game).
With no score in the first half, St. Thomas more scored 2 quick goals at the start of the second half and put a third goal in the back of the net late in the game to seal the victory. This young team has yet to lose a game in 4 years: they have gone an incredible 63-0 over 6 seasons including playoffs and championships and scored over 250 goals.
Team members include, Tara Burke, Elizabeth Cardinale, Summer Colleran, Kristen Corral, Emily Dripchak, Alyssa Durante, Valerie Good, Cindy Henderson, Maura Hennessey, Jessica Jamin, Lauren Malloy, Julie Maloney, Tara Muoio, Victoria Owens, Siobhan Sammon, Kasey Robertson and Mackenzie Thompson.
The girls understand the concept of team and that every goal starts with the actions of another.
Each and every player has a part in every goal scored from the defender who clears the ball to the midfielders who then pass the ball up the sideline to the forwards who than cross it to our strikers for a goal.
Your coaches are so very proud of you.
A big thank you to all the parents for making sure your daughter was on time for every practice and every game regardless of your very hectic schedules. Sometimes the girls had to give up other activities and even birthday parties to make it to the games and they always did so willingly.
See you in the spring. Way to go Sharks!!!
