Estranged Wife Stabs Then ‘Mugs’ Hubby
Police are looking for a Hammels woman who allegedly stabbed her husband in the stomach and then broke a coffee mug over his head before fleeing their apartment last Thursday night.
Renee (nee Thomas) Fortune, 43, seriously injured her husband, Lemaire Fortune, when she grabbed a kitchen knife and plunged it into his lower left abdomen, according to a police source. She then smashed a coffee mug over his head and fled the apartment, said the source. Another law enforcement source said the couple has a history of domestic violence.
A published report detailing the incident said Renee, identified with her maiden name, had been arrested and charged with assault, but police and Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown’s Office said the woman was still on the loose.
Lemaire was taken to Jamaica Hospital with serious injuries, according to police. His condition was not released.
