‘Little North Pole’ Slated For December 4
Neponsit residents Joseph and Maritza Mure will once again bring the holiday spirit to the Rockaways with their annual lighting of The Little North Pole on Saturday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m. sharp. The Little North Pole is located at 144-03 Neponsit Avenue.
More than six years ago, Mure and his wife created a winter wonderland at their Neponsit home in an effort to bring attention to juvenile diabetes. Dubbed “The Little North Pole,” the festivities attract thousands of visitors each year.
“The Little North Pole is all about the holiday spirit,” said Mure, president of the Brooklyn/Queens chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. “It’s about realizing that every hour of every day, a child is diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Not only will these children be insulin-dependent for life, but could face devastating life-limiting and life-shortening complications. We do not have to accept this as the norm.
We can make a difference.”
And, making a difference, is what the visitors to The Little North Pole have been doing since the first year. More than $100,000 has been donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation since the Mure family started the holiday lighting event.
“We can do even better,” Mure said, challenging this year’s attendees. “I know that a cure for diabetes is within reach. We can all do our part to eliminate diabetes.”
Proceeds from The Little North Pole will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Those who want to donate to the “Little North Pole” may contact Joseph Mure Jr. at (718) 852-9100 or (718) 938-1666.
