Canoe Club Cleans Up Jamaica Bay

Juliet Bloss, from England, and Barbara Toborg of Broad Channel helped remove over 1,000 pounds of debris from the Jamaica bay shoreline. The debris was collected by the Sebago Canoe Club as part of the International Beach Cleanup effort this year. “Each year Joe Romano from the club brings out a group of kayakers to help collect floatable garbage in the bay and it’s my job to haul it out for collection”  said Don Riepe, Director of the American Littoral Society in New York. “We’ll continue to work cleaning up old boats and debris until the end of November unless the weather turns bitterly cold”.
