Weiner: Bloomberg Responsible For ‘Dark Day’
Senator John Kerry has conceded the presidential election to President George Bush. Representative Anthony Weiner, a Kerry supporter, released the following statement:
“President Bush’s victory marks a continuation of an agenda that empowers the well off and ignores the plight of working Americans. It also means a generational shift to the right for our judiciary and the domination of the United States Supreme Court by Justices who will not protect a woman’s right to choose.
“This is undeniably a dark day for New Yorkers as well. From education to homeland security it is hard to imagine an administration that has been more hostile to the needs of our city.
“To make the results more bitter for our city is the stunning support that our own Mayor gave to George Bush. When overwhelming numbers of New Yorkers understood how much was at stake in this election, Mayor Bloomberg raised money for the GOP and declared his support for the President. He did more than sit silent in the face of this anti-New York administration - he cheered.
“Today it seems clear, the Mayor’s help and support for Bush reflects at best a sad lack of understanding of the feelings and needs of our City.
“New Yorkers turned out in record numbers to defend their city. Mike Bloomberg was fighting on the other side.”
