St Thomas More Captures Two Championships

Thirty-three very stubborn runners stepped up and helped STM capture Two CYO Team Sectional Championships in the Senior Boys and Bantam Boys divisions, and five team medal winning finishes – 2nd in the Novice and Bantam Girls levels and 3rd in the Novice and Junior Boys levels and Junior Girls group. Kevin D’Emic started our day by winning the boy’s senior race, running 6:00 on 1.15-mile course. Kevin set the STM senior record last week running 5:57.6. Daniel Lee finished 3rd (6:32), Shawn Egan 8th (6:58), Thomas McNoble (7:25) and Andrew Appell (7:57) led STM to a 12-13 win over OLL. Kara Egan who set the STM Junior Record of 5:32 last week finished second (5:52) and led STM to a 3rd place finish in the Junior Girls (.8 mile) Race. Louise Duffy (6:13), and Christa Hedderson (7:13) completed this team. STM 22, St Margaret’s 21, OLL 16 .

The Junior Boys finished third behind OLL and ST Clement Pope. Taylor Conlon (5:43), Patrick Cusack (6:41) and Liam Anderson (6:44) won 3rd place bronze medals.

Our young Novice’s competed on the half mile course. Our Girls finished 2nd to OLL (6-23): Kristin Sullivan (3:48), Mairead Gormley (4:01), Caroline Kane (4:20), Jane McNoble (4:20), Elizabeth Lisk (4:55) and Caroline Kane (5:05). Our Boys finished behind OLL and St Margaret’s: Christian Conlon (3:46), Philip Carr (3:58), Robert Kiernan (4:10), Conor McDonough (4:25), Joseph Moran (4:30), Conor Leary (4:52), Edward Carr (5:07) , Kiel Anderson (5:12) and Aiden Strongreen (5:15).

The Bantams run last each week. Our three bantam girls finished 2nd to OLL by the score of 7 – 19 on the .7 mile course. They are: Brianne Kelly (4:42), Summer Colleran (4:56) and Tara Burke (5:15).

The bantam boy’s concluded a fine day by easily capturing the sectional title (STM 8 OLL 14). Jack Kane won the race (4:05) with the third fastest time in history of STM Track. Sean McNoble (4:25), Patrick Egan (4:26), Conor Strongreen (4:44) and Ryan Campbell (5:28) completed this gold medal winning team.

The St Thomas More Cross Country team had a solid day winning two individual gold medals and one silver, two sets of gold team medals, 5 sets of team silver or bronze medals and 19 overall individual medals. The STM program would like to thank Xavier runner Ryan Woerner (14:51 for 2.5 miles at Van Courtland) for his help coaching and timing. St Thomas More looks to next Sunday’s Diocesan Championships with “Great Expectations”.
