Sorrentino Recreational Center Flag Football Season Begins
Flag Football is a game that teaches the fundamentals of N.F.L. football without any acts of tackling. It teaches sportsmanship by coaches and players and the rules are easy to understand.
The P.A.L. / N.F.L. Parks & Recreation and the Sorrentino Recreation Center, are the proud hosts for the 2004 fall flag football program.
Now in its fourth season, games are played on Saturdays at Beach 17th Street, O’Donahue Park. Games start at 9:30 a.m. Sorrentino Recreation Center has 3 divisions: 8-11 yrs. old, 12-14 yrs. old and the newly formed 15-18 yrs. old division.
In the 8-11 year old division; there are 4 teams: Bengals-coached by Stan Brown (assistant coach Isaac Parsee), Seahawks-coached by Robert Lindo, Browns-coached by Julio Morales and the Ravens-coached by Kelvin Bowers.
In the 12-14 year old division; there are 5 teams: Falcons-coach Robert Lindo, Bengals-coach Rick Adkins, Browns-coach Julio Morales, Ravens-coach Kelvin Bowers and Rams- coach John Middleton.
In the 15-18 High School Division there are 5 teams: St. Johns Residence Browns-coach Glenn Thompkins, (asst. coach Mike Song), Sorrentino Recreation Center All Stars Bengals-coach Stan Brown (asst. coach Isaac Parsee), Gateway Block Association Rams-coach John Middleton, Ocean Village Ravens- coach Kelvin Bowers and Sorrentino Recreation Center In The House Falcons-coach Robert Lindo.
The Staff from Sorrentino Recreation Center are: Bernard Robinson-Center Manager, Stan Brown-Sports Director, Robert Lindo-Flag Football Coordinator, Chaleene Nash-Photographer and Danielle Goldfarb- Photographer.
The officials are: Kyreem Softleigh, Angelo Garcia and Travis Kelly. The coaches are: Stan Brown, Robert Lindo, John Middleton, Kelvin Bowers, Julio Morales and Glenn Thompkins. Assistant coaches are Isaac Parsee and Mike Song.
Saturday October 9, 2004 was the start of the P.A.L. / N.F.L. / Parks & Recreation Flag Football season. All games are being played at O’Donohue Park at 17th Street. In the first game of the day in the 8-11 age division, the Seahawks defeated the Bengals 34-6. In the other 8-11 game, the Ravens defeated the Browns 38-14. In the 12-14-age division, the Falcons beat the Ravens 36-22.
The second game in the 12-14-age division, the Bengals came back from a 12-point deficit to beat the Browns (18-12. In the 15-18-age division, the Falcons lost to the Ravens. In the last game Stan Browns Bengals narrowly defeated the Browns 36-28.
On Monday, October 11, 2004, in the 8-11 age division, the Ravens shut out the Bengals 38-0. In the second 8-11 game, the Browns lost 38-4 to the Seahawks. In the 12-14- division, the Falcons beat the Browns 36-22. In the second 12-14-game, the Rams defeated the Ravens 42-0. In the 15-18-age division, the Falcons defeated the Browns 50-35.
On Saturday, October 16, 2004. In the 8-11 division, the 2-0 Seahawks will play the 2-0 Ravens at 9:30 a.m. The 0-2 Browns will play the 0-2 Bengals at 10:30 a.m. In the 12-14-age division, the 1-0 Rams will play the
0-2 Browns at 11:45 a.m. and the 1-0 Bengals will play the 2-0 Falcons at 12:45 p.m. In the 15-18-age division the 1-0 Rams will play the 0-2 Browns at 2 p.m. and the 1-0 Bengals will play the 1-1 Falcons at 3 p.m.
The flag football season in the Rockaways ends November 13, 2004 with an inter-league competition to begin November 15, 2004 at a site to be announced. On November 20, 2004, the Inter-Boro City Championships will be held at Riverbank State Park in Manhattan.
