PHC Names Three To Be Honored At Anniversary Ball

REV EVAN. GRAY Three locals will be honored by Peninsula Hospital Center (PHC) at its annual Anniversary Ball to be held on October 30 at the Sands in Atlantic Beach.

They are Leonard E. Schiffman, DMD, Director of the Department of Dentistry at the hospital center; The Reverend Evan Dean Gray, Jr., a hospital board member and Michael Daniels, MD, the Director of the hospital’s Department of Psychiatry.

According to a PHC spokesperson, Schiffman is being honored for his many years of personal excellence in the care of his patients from the Rockaways and Five Towns, and his personal dedication and commitment to the Hospital Center.

MARSHALL DANIELS MD A member of the Peninsula Hospital Center medical staff for the past three decades, Dr. Schiffman continues to serve in several capacities at the hospital. In addition to his position as Directtry and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, he is also the Director of the General Practice Residency Dental Program where he has helped train hundreds of dentists. For the last twenty-five years, Dr. Schiffman has been the Director of the Peninsula Hospital Center Dental Society, the largest continually operating cooperative dental study group in New York State. This renowned Society has hosted well over 150 seminars attended by thousands of dentists from the metropolitan New York region who participate in instructional programs presented by the most prominent dentists in the world. Dr. Schiffman also holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at the Columbia University College of Dental and Oral Surgery and has published professionally. He is a member of the Medical Board of the Hospital Center and of the Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation. Dr. Schiffman has held the positions of Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President and President of the Hospital Medical Board and has been a member of the Peninsula Hospital Center’s Benefactor Club for the past decade.

LEONARD E. SCHIFFMAN, DDS Rev Evan. Gray will receive the Outstanding Member of the Board award. Rev. Gray was born and raised in Rockaway Beach. He attended the local public schools, graduated from Beach Channel High School and went on to attend Brooklyn College. At the age of 14, Rev. Gray was called upon to preach and delivered his initial sermon on August 15, 1982. Ten years later, in 1992, he was elected Pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church where he remains its pastor. Rev. Gray is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the College of New Rochelle.

Rev. Gray’s two children, Evan Dean Gray, Jr. and Erin Lillie Gray, provided him with added motivation to help make the Rockaway community a better place. His ministry has remained focused on youth and youth services. Under his leadership, the Macedonia Baptist Church opened its doors for educational services through the Truancy Program of the NYC Board of Education and he has also opened his doors to community groups seeking to better the Rockaways by encouraging them to hold their meetings in his church.

Rev. Gray served as Chairman of the Rockaway/Inwood Ministerial Coalition for two years. He currently serves the Rockaway community as Chaplain of both the 100 and the 101 Police Precincts, Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Michelle Titus and has held a seat on the Peninsula Hospital Cener’s Board of Directors since 1995.

Marshall Daniels M.D., Director of Pathology at Peninsula Hospital Center since 1965, is the third honoree of the 97th Anniversary Ball.

A graduate of MIT and the NY College of Medicine, Dr. Daniels completed both his internship and residency at NYU Bellevue Hospital. He served as Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at NYU College of Medicine and as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at NY College of Osteopathic Medicine. Certified by the American Board of Pathology, he is a distinguished member of Alpha Omega Alpha and a Fellow of both the American College of Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

4Dr. Daniels and his wife Pauline live in Brooklyn and are the proud parents of Jacqueline and David. In their leisure time, they enjoy bridge, reading, music and their two beautiful grandchildren, Jami Beth and Dani Faith.
