Broad Channel Ponys Beat Valley Stream

With a tough Valley Stream team coming into Broad Channel, the Shamrocks went on to win their home opener. With good tackling and blocking, Matt Gericke ran in the first touchdown on a 9-yard run. Ronnie Lounberg kept the ball on a halfback option for the point after attempt making it 7-0.

The Broad Channel defense was tough and stifled the Valley Stream offense. The defense was led by Jack Tubridy, Frank Lain and Sean Kelly.

The Shamrocks found the end zone again with Gericke on a 50-yard touchdown run. Anthony Ciambriello took the extra point to make it 14-0 on an end around.

With the Shamrocks against the wind, Steven Ellis intercepted a Valley Stream pass. Ronnie Lounberg went on to score a touchdown with only 1:00 left in the half on a trick play screen. The point after attempt was no good.

With Valley Stream pressing in the second half and the score at 20-13, the Shamrocks defense made several fumble recoveries and big hits to keep Broad Channel in the lead. Among the defensive stars were Matt Holgate, Matt Randall, A.J. Hadler, Eddie Warren, John Murray, Steve Trodden, Jose Dominguez, Chris Hazel, Andrew Guttieri, Mike Kohn and Sean Welch.

Channel defeated Plainridge last week by a score of 14-7 on the road.
