Campers Enjoy McClancy Boys Basketball Camp
The 22nd edition of the MSGR McClancy Memorial High School Boys Basketball Day Camp had 100 boys between the ages of 7-15 years old attend this year’s camp., which took place from August 9-13. The camp was divided into three leagues: The Olympic Division for the younger boys, the NCAA League for the middle group of 10-12 years old and the N.B.A. Division for the older boys (13-15 years old).
The fundamental teaching stations were conducted for one hour each day Monday to Thursday and every camper played at least two games per day. The playoffs were held on Friday followed by an awards ceremony in the school cafeteria. Daily raffles were held each day at the conclusion of the camp and one happy camper won two box seats to a Yankees game, which was donated by Tim Jones of the St. Francis De Sales Parish.
Foul shooting and one-on-one contests were also conducted in each division. Daniel Donohue, who lives in the St. Francis De Sales Parish and enjoyed the camp, won the foul shooting contest in the contest. Overall, 18 boys from Breezy Point and Belle Harbor rode the bus each day to the camp, which was conducted by Rockaway Point’s Don Kent.
