Breezy Point Par Tee Golf News

By Peg Ansbro

Congratulations to Pam Armour! She was our top scorer on August 19th with a 61 and a birdie on #9 and a chip-in birdie on #2.  Next was Nancy Heffernan with a 66. Eileen Watson and Peg Ansbro followed with 67’s.  Tied with 68 were Susan Ryan and Barbara Caramelli who had a birdie on 15. Tied at 69 were Joan McNally and Janis Murphy.  Scoring in the 70’s were Marge O”Leary (71) with a chip-in birdie on 17 and a chip-in on 7. Pat Disch(72) had a birdie on 6. Other birdie winners were Liz Hanratty on 1 and Katie Gallagher on 5. And chip-ins were holed by Susan Ryan on 7, Marilyn Danese on 13 and Ann Lane on 18.

Our two day tournament will be held on August 26th and and September 2nd. Each entrant will be playing against herself and the better score of the two days is recorded. If only one day can be attended then that score will count.

Par Tee luncheon will be at the Beach Club on Thursday, September 9th at 12 o’clock.

Cost is $25, payable to Par Tee Golf, and includes salad, pasta, entre, dessert, unlimited coffee (cappacino, expresso) and soda.

Choice of entre includes: chicken francese, baked salmon or NY shell steak. Bring your check and choice of entre to the golf course on August 26th and give either to Marilyn Higgins or Betty Monahan.

And finally, here’s a little slice of golf history that you might enjoy.  Why do golf courses have 18 holes—not 20, or 10 or an even dozen?

During a disscussion among the club’s membership board at St. Andrews in 1858, a senior member pointed out that it takes exactly 18 shots to polish off a fifth of scotch. By limiting himself to only one shot of Scotch per hole, the Scot figured a round of golf was finished when the Scotch ran out. Maybe that is what I need to improve my game!!!

  God love you!!
