Nursing Home Patient Is ‘Safe and Sound’

The 75-year-old man, who went AWOL from a Far Rockaway nursing home on August 10, turned himself in at another city hospital last Thursday and is now back in Rockaway, safe and sound.

Donald King, who had a history of eloping, or running away, went to Harlem Hospital last Thursday night and identified himself as a patient from Bishop Charles Waldo MacLean Episcopal Nursing Home, on Brookhaven Avenue in Far Rockaway. Staff workers were dispatched from Rockaway to pick him up immediately, according to Melissa Krantz, a spokesperson for the nursing home.

“He’s back, safe and sound and we couldn’t be happier,” said Krantz, who added that staff would keep a close eye on the slippery patient.

It was not clear exactly where King went for the nine days that he was missing. A source said King had friends in Harlem, who he may have been visiting.
