Cubs Make Comeback To Win Championship

By Stan Brown

Sorrentino Recreation Center hosted its 3rd Annual Summer Baseball League. It was a huge success and great participation on behalf of the players, coaches, staff, parents, friends, and community support. The winners of the 2004 Baseball season representing the borough of Queens are the Cubs coached by Rick Adkins. Although the Cubs lost 4 of their first 5 games, they managed to surprise everyone with an outstanding display of teamwork and good sportsmanship. They defeated the heavily favored Pirates, coached by Robert Lindo, 4-2. The consolation game was played between the Twins coached by Kelvin Bowers and the Cardinals coached by Stan Brown. The final score was Twins 6, Cardinals 1.

The Cubs will advance to the city championships on August 28, 2004 at Red Hook Field in Brooklyn, 12 p.m. For further information please contact Stan Brown at (718) 471-4818. The Staff of the Sorrentino Recreation Center sends a heartfelt thanks to the Far Rockaway community for their support.
