Police Athletic League Girls Hit The Riis Park Links
|Several dozen girls from the Police Athletic League visited Pitch n Putt, in Jacob Riis Park, on Thursday to take their first-ever shots on a golf course. Kristina Bohl, 11, takes a shot at the 9th green.
Colleen Quinlan, 11, registers and gets her nametag.
Pitch n Putt concessionaire Kelley Brooke led a group of volunteers from the New York City Police Department and the Executive Women’s Golf Association and showed the girls how to pitch, chip and putt golf balls. “I don’t think any of them have played golf until today,” said Brooke, who was pleased to host the event. The girls were also treated to a barbecue and refreshments.
Andrea McFerren, 10, hits one off the tee.
Liana Reetz, 13, hits her putt – it was a bit too hot but right on line.
Friends of 13-year-old Ashley Iverson look to see if she will drain her 1st hold putt.
Brenna DeRosa, 10, sends a pretty shot out towards the 9th hole green.
Participants gather around the 2nd green to practice chip shots.
