Shot In Leg While En Route To Store

By Brian Magoolaghan

An 18-year-old Edgemere man was shot in the leg while he was on the way to a store near his house last Thursday night, police said.

John Wells told police he was walking to a store on the corner of Beach 43 Street and Beach Channel Drive at about 8:45 p.m. when a westbound blue Chevrolet Cavalier pulled over. Three men got out of the vehicle and one of them shot at Wells three times, striking him once in the right calf. The men got back in the vehicle and took off westbound on Beach Channel Dr., then turned south on Beach 44 St.

Wells, who was taken to Peninsula General Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, was not able to get the license plate number of the vehicle and told police he didn’t recognize the gunman or his accomplices.

The shooting sparked a wide-scale mobilization of officers in the 101 Precinct. Officers canvassed the precinct, including the Beach 40s housing development, for the gunmen, their vehicle or evidence, but found nothing.
