Sanders Picks First At Second Arverne Housing Lottery
|The lottery for about 1,100 condominiums, part of the ongoing Arverne by the Sea project, was held at the ABTS sales center on Beach 73 Street and Shore Front Parkway last Friday morning. From left to right: Gerard Romski, Joyce Michaels and Russell Mohr, from Benjamin and Beechwood and city Department of Housing Preservation and Development Monitor, Vincent Noto, sort out the applications by postmark.
Noto dumps one of many post office cartons out onto the conference table.
Time for a little fun – Noto mixes up the applications before they are loaded into large black trash bags for random selection.
At right: City Councilman James Sanders Jr., who was instrumental in securing up to 20 percent of the units for a price-restricted program, reaches into one of the bags to pull out the first lucky applicant’s envelope. The price-restricted units will start at $175,000.
Sanders, flanked by Benjamin and Beechwood and HPD reps, shows off the first application pulled during the lottery. The Far Rockaway applicant should receive notice within a few weeks.
