Learn About Botany At Fort Tilden

The National Park Service at Gateway National Recreation Area is offering the public an opportunity to learn about coastal botany at Rockaway’s historic Fort Tilden.

On Sunday, August 1 at 10 a.m. a park volunteer will lead participants on a “Breezy Botany Walk;” through maritime uplands, back dune and shore habitats, exploring the beautiful and hardy plants that thrive there.

This program is free but reservations are required. To reserve, please phone the Fort Tilden Visitor Contact Station at (718) 318-4300. Bring drinking water and sun/insect protection. Fort Tilden is located on Beach Channel Drive, Rockaway just west of the entrance to the Marine Parkway Bridge.

For information on other programs that are being offered at Gateway National Recreation Area this summer, pick up a program guide at any park location or visit the web at: www.nps.gov/gate.
