Don and Helen Joyce of Breezy Point just returned from Long Beach, California where they witnessed their granddaughter, Kara Joyce swim the fifty and one hundred free-style and the four by one hundred relay races for the Olympic try outs. Twenty members of Kara’s family celebrated her great achievement and acceptance into the 2004 Olympic swimming competition in Athens, Greece on Aug. 14. We will all be rooting for her.

The retirement party for former US Customs Agent, Jimmy Ruffo, held at Russo’s on the Bay was a huge success. Among the attendees were members of the faithful Kennedy’s bar group: Joe Kilbride, the best bartender; Tom Coady, Bob Zelek (favorite insurance broker); Pat, (“Toots,” from Toot Shor times,” now with NYC Connelly’s) Sammon, Bob O’Brian, (Oops! He wasn’t there). They were all looking for him. What happened? He isn’t the type to miss a soiree’ like that. Let us know.

The Colony Theatre opened with a flourish Sat. night. Members of the Co-op gathered together to enjoy the FREE Beer donated by the Bay House, delicious peppers and onions, thinly sliced roast beef and baked macaroni and cheese donated by Kennedy’s, crudites and cheese by the Blarney, hot dogs and soda by the Co-op as a thank you to the Co-op members who paid and are paying for the reconstruction of the building. Msg. Connelly, pastor of St. Thomas More St. Edmunds Churches, gave the blessing and welcomed all attendees. Grace McCloskey was there ready with her donation and raffle tickets, Lew Simon and his crew stopped to chat with me. I must mention Lew is doing a fine job working on a solution to the many summonses handed out to the beach lovers in Belle Harbor and Neponsit. It is unconscionable the way the beach rules are being observed in Belle Harbor. Though Breezy Point is not affected, Belle Harbor and Neponsit are an extension of our family on the Rockaway Peninsula. Their residents should be able to enjoy the beach after hours without fear of a police summons. Lew Simon and Audrey Pheffer are working diligently on a solution.

Lew also brought to my attention that Dr. Geraldine D. Chapey was upset that I mentioned in my column she was in her nineties. This is not so. Besides, how could anyone think Dr. Chapey could ever possibly be in her nineties, as supposedly stated in my column??? I wrote that Grace McCloskey’s mother was with her at the WAVE Rockaway Museum party at Pier 92 was in her nineties. If you reread the column I believe you will find that so.

Patty Crowley turns 41, so she claims, on July 19. Congratulations. Peter Danzilo turned another page in his lifetime book on June 29. Belated Happy Birthday, Peter.

It was a Black and White wedding for Jean Dierking and Mathew Belford at St. Thomas More on Sat. There were 10 ushers, a maid of honor and four bridesmaids in the wedding party for the beautiful bride. The mother of the groom was Chickie Belford and parents of the bride were: Ann and Ron Walker and Ray and June Dierking. Their reception was held at the Puck Bldg. in Manhattan. Congratulations and good luck!

They were children from age three to sixteen learning how to surf at this weekend’s Kevin McNamee’s memorial surfing camp conducted by John McNamee, Bobby Crowley, Sean Reen and other well qualified instructors. It was such a huge success that over 200 kids showed up and they ran out of T-shirts. They may be looking for more instructors at next year’s camp. Maybe Breezy will have an Olympic surfer some day.

Helene and Peter Danzilo, along with Barbara Genoese, Kathlene Conway conduct Duplicate Bridge games every Thursday evenings at St. Edmund’s Parish Hall. Players come from Brooklyn and Belle Harbor and Neponsit. All are welcome. Call St. Thomas More/St. Edmunds for more info.

At a credit repair event, Luther Gatling, “Credit Doctor,” as he is known on many TV Channels where he regularly appears such as Good Day, N.Y., The Today Show, Eyewitness News, CNN’s Money Line etc. told his audience, “DO NOT carry many credit cards. It will cause you to have a low credit rating (2) DO NOT allow anyone to use your credit cards (3) DO NOT co-sign for any one even a member of your family. If you really get over your head in debt, file for bankruptcy. Though you will be on probation for ten years you can reapply for a new credit card after one year. If able, invest your money, preferably in Real Estate and/or Stock Market. The interest value is more than the banks can offer. Get your house in order. Provide for your loved one’s inheritance. Tell your grandparents you will leave them so much if you pass away. This, in turn, will give them the incentive to leave you a portion of their will. Just some good sound advice I wish to pass on to you.

Had my third treatment of INVISILIFT and find my hanging jowls are disappearing, my eyes are opening up with the lids being raised and the crows feet around the eyes are almost diminished. If true or not, people are coming up to me and tell me how well I look so I guess the INVISILIFT, (non-surgical facelift) is working and I still have three more treatments to complete. This, gals and men, too, is the most pleasant way to have a facelift. No anxiety, no pain, no surgery and no downtime. Can’t beat it! AND, it is very affordable. Dr. Kelly O’Mally - Matone is in Great Neck, only a few steps from the LIRR. She is an MD from Mount Sinai Hospital as is her sister who performs this miracle facelift in Conn. Call me if you want more info or call her in Great Neck. It is on the web at: www.invisilift.com. Some of you have called already and made appointments. You will be glad you did! Just found out at my last visit, Dr. O’Malley;s mother is Marie O’Malley who, in 1984 was crowned my Ms. Golden Girl Queen. She had five children (still does and grandchildren) and roller skated to her award. Marie was an adorable, bubbly, effervescent contestant, one hard to forget. She must be so proud of her successful children.
