Rockaway Little League Softball News

You would never know by looking at them that the Rockaway Junior Softball Team lost their second straight against Ozone/Howard’s Junior Team by a score of 17-16. They were as proud and as happy as can be-and rightfully, should be!  They played 2 great games against Ozone/Howard losing by the scores of 11-10 and 17-16. In last year’s Little League meeting Rockaway lost 24-1 and 10-0. What an improvement in just one years’ time! After 4 innings in the second game, of play, Rockaway lead 8-6. Rockaway got up to bat tied at 11-11 in the 7th, and scored 5 runs on singles by Michelle Kenel, Michelle Cashen, Kristina Iudica, Kelly Carman, Tara Mullen & Kerry King. Ozone/Howard wasn’t finishedand came back to score 6 runs to win the game.

Even though the girls lost, this was the first time that Rockaway gave the Ozone/Howard team a run for their money. A lot of credit goes to the great assistance of coach Dawn Duggan, who taught the girls how to hit against a windmill pitcher. And wow, can these girls hit the ball! Don’t be surprised to see a Little League banner next year for Rockaway in the near future!
