Boardwalk Protest Draws 350 To Beach 116 Street

A “Take Back The Beach” protest demonstration led by Democratic District Leader Lew Simon drew approximately 350 local residents to the boardwalk at Beach 116 Street on Tuesday evening. Chanting “We love Rockaway,” and “Give us back our beaches,” the group listened to Simon and several others speak about the problems faced by Rockaway residents due to the restrictive beach and boardwalk rules. Pictured, Norman Siegel, attorney and former executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, listens to Simon speak to the crowd as a local with a sign gives his opinion of Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe.A “Take Back The Beach” protest demonstration led by Democratic District Leader Lew Simon drew approximately 350 local residents to the boardwalk at Beach 116 Street on Tuesday evening.
