Fun, Fireworks And A Wedding Mark July 4 Weekend
There were several memorable occasions during the 4th of July weekend; however, the EVENT that everyone seemed to be most excited about was the wedding of the lovely Jill McManus to the handsome and charming Kenny Good! (See photos in this week’s edition) The couple was married at a beautiful ceremony at St. Rose of Lima Church. Father James Devine officiated. Claire Wetterau was the Maid of Honor and Steven Good served as Best Man. The Bridesmaids were Anne Marie Divilly, Alyssa Good, Kara Gregorius, Lis Gregorius, Laura Grosseto, Heather Reynolds, and Katy Silverstein. The Groomsmen were Bryan Bernath, Matt Fanning, Jonny B. Good, Joseph Martino, and Ryan McManus. The Junior Bridesmaid was Krista O’Gara and Junior Groomsmen was John and Robert O’Gara. The Flower Girls were Tracy Imhof and Mary McManus. The Ring Bearer was Jackie McManus.
Since there were so many of whom the couple wanted to share in their special day, there were two spectacular receptions held at The Beach Club where the couple were feted well into the night.
The breathtakingly beautiful bride wore an elegant slip-dress wedding gown with formal Cathedral train and Tiara.
She is the daughter of Teresa McManus and Glenn McManus of Rockaway Park and Woodside, respectively, and the granddaughter of Joan and John McManus. The Groom is the son of Fran Good and Edward Good of Brooklyn and Rockaway Park, respectively.
The couple honeymooned in Costa Rica and will reside in Rockaway Park.
Kenny, as everybody knows, is the co-proprietor, as well as co-prince of Beach 116 Street!
Together with his fabulous brother Steven, the Good brothers have helped transform our main business-seat with the opening of the Beach Club nearly ten years ago and the Sunset Diner.
Theirs is more than a partnership between brothers. You can see the love and respect they have for one another. They are best friends. They are each other’s Best Man. With all their activism and philanthropic endeavors, they have certainly been a best friend to our community. I wish Jill and Kenny many years of wedded Bliss and congratulations to both the McManus and Good families.
***"Brenda, you’re a fine girl. What a good wife you could be..." There was plenty of fun and fireworks on the 4th at the Flynn’s! Brenda and Terry Flynn Jr. hosted their annual 4th of July party at their newly-built majestic manse in Breezy Point. Their home really lends itself to entertaining with its wrap-around stone deck and large landscaped front yard. Brenda and Terry and their children John, Breanna- Marie, and Terrence Jr. were joined by all their family, friends, and neighbors. Among them were Brenda’s parents, Annamarie and Frank DeLisi; her brother Frank DeLisi and son, John; Terry’s parents, Mary and Terry Flynn Sr.; his grandmother, Mrs. Nelly Hart; Timmy and Marie Flynn with their daughters, Ciara and Kelsy; Mary and Chuck Gillen with their children, Mary, Jaclyn, and Katelyn. Of course there were the Belle Harbor buddies: Peter Eaton, Mary Beth and Keith (Bugsy) Goldberg, Barry McTiernan, Heidi and Max Goldman, Pat Delaney, Jim and Barbara Kessler, Frankie Walker, Robert and Patty Henshel, Eric McManus, and brothers Billy and Dick Mullare.
Among their neighbors were: Barbara Schaffer, Eilleen Smith, Tesha Young, Roseanne Tennyson, Anne and Dick Lee, Joy and Bob Gleissner, and Nina Moffetto. Guests were treated to a traditional Barbecue and danced to the Planet Groove Band. I was a little disappointed that neither Mary nor Terry Flynn Sr. didn’t get up and perform. Mrs. Flynn is an accomplished chanteuse; and of course everybody knows what a great dancer Terry Sr. is. The piece de resistance was a spectacular Grucci Fireworks display on the beach along with the Macy’s Fireworks that lit up the entire skyline. It was my first 4th of July, Breezy Point style, and will certainly be most memorable.
***Congratulations to Terry and Brenda DeLisi Flynn on the opening of their new Law and Real Estate offices on Beach Channel Drive in the former Exercise Club building.
***If you stood there blinded by the setting sun you would have thought you were in Key West! The Wharf is a perfect place to dine al fresco, watch the boats go by, and toast to our wonderful seaside town. Now, all we need is an A&B seafood restaurant and a Pier where we could have our own sunset celebration-Rockaway style!
***Eight year old Katrina-Marie Gummerman had the best answer when I asked her why, on the 4th of July, she was only wearing red and white, but not blue. She insisted she was, pointed to her eyes and said, "They’re blue!".
***Did you know...a summer strawberry shortcake makes the best Birthday cake. Ciro’s makes the best; or better yet, find the ripest strawberries and make one for someone you love!
***See you...On the Beach!
