After a tremendous 7’s tournament and a fun filled Fourth of July beach party, the Fisheads are gearing up for an event filled summer.

Summer is usually a time to recover from injuries and concentrate on other aspects of life, but this year there are several eye catching events that are sure to excite rugby fans and Rockawayites young and old.

The Irish Festival returns to Rockaway this year, as the Fisheads will hold the first ever Mini Fleagh Fest in the rugby club backyard on Sunday, July 25th. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and there will be fun and entertainment for all with live Irish music as well as honored guests, great food, fun and games including a dunking tank, pipes and drums and much more. Headlining this event will be 2 of New York’s great Irish rock bands Shillelagh Law and Seanachie. If you’re up early that day you may want to catch the return of the Old boys/ Young Boys game (Ft. Tilden at 11 a.m.). This traditional match pits the young upstart ruggers of the neighborhood against the wily veterans of yesteryear.  In a prelude to this highly anticipated match, the Old timers spanked the young pups in a 4th of July touch match on beach 129th St. Much to the delight of the large local crowd. Xavier legends Brendan and Dan Lunny as well as Tom (I’m Not) French could only shake their heads in disbelief as the 35 and over crowd took it to them time and time again...we’ll see what happens later this month.

Finally, the Fisheads are hoping to defend their 3 year title in the Oldboys division at the Seagirt Jersey Shore tournament in late August.. . More on that later.
