ARTSPLASH is a juried exhibition of original works, to be exhibited in sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 Galleries, outdoor stage, sculpture garden and the surrounding park at Fort Tilden, Rockaway, Queens, New York in partnership with the National Park Service / Gateway National Recreation Area. This year the event takes place October 2-November 7. The opening reception is scheduled for October 3. The deadline for receipt of entries is August 6. Visual artists of all media, literary and performing artists are invited to participate. Sculpture, photography, fine arts, dance, video, installations, poetry, ceramics, music, theater and performance will all be considered. Performing artist participants will form the framework of special events, both indoor and outdoor. Digital artworks featured in the special section must be limited edition two-dimensional prints or photographs that use the computer as a primary creative tool to make the imagery.

The deadline for receipt of entries to "FRAME: Art in the Period between the 2nd and 3rd World Wars" is July 9. Watch this column for possible extension of that deadline. FRAME a juried exhibition of original works, to be exhibited in sTudio 7 Gallery. The goal of this exhibition is to explore the historical significance of the time in which we live and the importance of the influence that the individual, culture and society have on each other. The exhibition is designed to showcase works of art that were created in reaction to global and local politics, the global trends and the events in our society. The aim of the project is to stimulate a debate that will bring people to ask difficult questions and to confront difficult issues. The show will refrain from making any definite political statements, leaving viewers to find answers. FRAME will leave choices to each person individually. Entrants must be USA artists a minimum of 18 years of age. The only criterion for acceptance is the artistic quality of pieces not the political views of the artist. 2D and 3D art media will be considered. Statement contributing to a better understanding of the works and special display requirements must accompany all works submitted for consideration. The exhibition runs concurrent to ARTSPLASH. Go to our website to download and print the prospectus and entry form or contact the office.

PhotoVoice is a not-for-profit organization that provides photography equipment and training to disenfranchised people, mostly youth, in various parts of the world, allowing them to tell their own stories through photography. PhotoVoice presented a very well-received exhibition, "Unbroken," of that splendid work in sTudio 7 Gallery last year. "Unbroken: Photography Subjects Speak Out" is running through July 17 at Denise Bibro Fine Art at 529 W 20th Street, 4th floor, in Manhattan. I recommend going. Young people who have historically been the subjects of photojournalism and documentaries are given the means to tell their own stories through images and words only they themselves can create. The result is an artistically, intellectually and emotionally fulfilling experience.

Have a great 4th.
