Beulah V. Bookman
Postal WorkerBeulah V. Bookman, who worked in Rockaway for more than 10 years, died on May 26. She was 71.
Bookman, who was born in the Bronx, was a parishioner at the Friendship Baptist Church. She was a postal worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Beulah Rice; a sister, Becky; and a brother, Arthur.
Bookman is survived by her children, Alan D. Rice Sr.; Elise Joseph, William E. Bookman Jr., James G. Bookman and Debra V. Hawkins; brothers, Milton, Cabbrey and Harry; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and other family and friends.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at the Friendship Baptist Church, in Jamaica, New York. Disposition was at Pinelawn Cemetery, in Farmingdale.
Gloria Pitts Edwards
Gloria Pitts Edwards, a Rockaway resident for more than 30 years, died on June 16.
Edwards, who was born in New York City, was a parishioner at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, in Far Rockaway. She worked as a postal clerk and was the founder of the Neighborhood Cleanup Committee.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Calloway; and her parents, Lucille and John Pitts.
Edwards is survived by her husband, Ralph Edwards; children, Cee, Calvin, Ayinde and Akiya; grandchildren, Cynia, Shemar, Kanika, Daja, Calvin, Ayinde, Elijah, Kadrea and Kaneisha; siblings, Francine Debetham (Alfred), John Pitts Jr. (Miriam), Bettie Pettiford (Rueben), David Pitts (Beth), Zul Quamain Abdu Shahid (Amina); and other family members and friends.

Richard J. Leib
Long Time In Breezy
Richard J. Leib, of St. James City, Florida and formerly a long-time Breezy Point resident, died on June 6.
Leib, who was born in Brooklyn, was a parishioner at St. Thomas More Church. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was an electrician and a builder. He was a past Captain of the Point Breeze Fire Department.
He is survived by a son, Richard Leib; a daughter, Dawn Pintauro; brothers, Gerard, Peter and Robert Leib; and granddaughters, Jillian and Rachel Pintauro.

Marie Lindsey, who has family in Edgemere, died on June 6. She was 84.
Lindsey, who was born in Augusta, Georgia, was a domestic.
She is survived by her mother, Willie Mae Blackwell; children, Debra Minter, Francine, Steve and Phillip Lindsey and Marcene Holley; sons in law, James Minter and William Holley; grandchildren, Nikkole Lindsey, James and Lawrence Minter, Fernando Angelica, Whitney and Ashley Lindsey and William Justin Holley; great grandchildren, Jaylen Whatkins; sister, Carrie Bell West; aunt, Ada Bates, of Edgemere; niece, Mary Davis; nephews, Willie James West and John Henry West; and other family members and friends.

Eda Jane Lyons
Nurse's Aide, Care Provider
Eda Jane Lyons, a Rockaway resident for more than 35 years, died on June 21. She was 74.
Lyons, who was born in Derby, Vermont, loved to swim and spent as much time as she could at the beach.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. Lyons was retired from her work as a certified nurse's aide and home healthcare provider.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Howard Lyons; a daughter, Linda Speece, of Effort, Pennsylvania; sons, Robert L. Laird Jr., of New Egypt, New Jersey and Mark Lyons, of Manhattan; a brother, Richard Hastings, of Derby, Vermont; sisters, Elaine Hill, of Lake Worth, Florida and Betty Flynn, of Apache Junction, Arizona; and grandsons, Robert James Laird, Fred Speece and Samuel Cohen.

Marion E. Ryan
Marion E. Ryan, a Garden City resident formerly of Rockaway, died on June 23.
Ryan, who was born in New York, New York, was a resident of the Ozanam Hall Nursing Home. She had lived in Rockaway for nearly 65 years and was a homemaker.
Ryan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ryan.
She is survived by a daughter, Marion Fanelli; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Newman; and grandsons, James and Thomas Fanelli.

Florence Elizabeth Simmons, a Rockaway resident for more than 15 years, died on June 6. She was 75.
Simmons, who was born in Charleston, South Carolina, worked as a baker. She was a parishioner at the Wallingford Presbyterian Church, in South Carolina, the Messiah Lutheran Church, in the Bronx, and the First Presbyterian Church, in Far Rockaway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rebecca Williams.
Simmons is survived by her daughters, Barbara Lowe (Wiley), Valdosta Mann, Lesurma Dixon (Robert), of Far Rockaway and Jerroldine Davis (Clifton); sons and daughters in law, Houston and Ingrid Simmons; sisters, Dorothy Prioleav (Joe) and Sarah Williams; brother, James Williams; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grand child; and other family members and friends.
