JBLL Minor Division Mets Clinch First!

JBLL Minor Division Mets Clinch First!

After being stunned by the Century 21 Athletics, 17-4, on June 14th, the Jamaica Bay Little League, Minor Division, Miele Associates Mets pounded their way into the playoffs this past week with two straight wins to finish the season in first with a 9-2 record. In each game this season, a different Met player has been the hitting star, but now it seems that the entire team is hitting, and that spells trouble for the competition.

In their first game back after seeing their winning streak stopped by the A’s, the Mets stroked 15 hits en-route to a 18-8 victory over the Sports Depot Yankees. Thomas Stelloh, Thomas Cani, James Miele and Jamie Romano all had multiple hits and the Mets had three homers, including back-to-back jacks by Domenick Delio and Miele in the fifth inning.

In their second game, the Mets extracted some revenge against the A’s by pounding out nine hits while grabbing a 10-6 lead before snuffing out a potential rally by the A’s to come away with a 10-8 win. Cani, Delio and Miele, who all went 2 for 3, supplied the offense. The A’s were nursing a one run lead before Miele tied the game at five all while leading off the bottom of the fourth inning with his third homer in the last two games. Sean Abell, who singled after the homer and advanced on a passed ball, scored the go-ahead run on a single by Romano. The Mets padded their lead in the fifth, plating four more runs while batting around, and turned back the A’s in the top of the final frame by throwing out two runners attempting to advance extra bases.

The Mets will open the play-offs against the Yankees on Tuesday, June 22 with a chance to advance to the championships on Saturday, June 26th.
