FBI, Park Police Investigate Bird Sanctuary Find

The U.S. Park Police called in the FBI to investigate a strange discovery by park rangers in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday. Dozens of large crates, containing the belongings of a "deranged" man, including flashlights, radios, a bicycle and paper towels, were unearthed, according to National Parks Service spokesperson Brian Feeney. The area’s proximity to JFK Airport and the discovery of radio devices sparked a "quick and thorough" FBI investigation to determine whether there was a terrorist threat, Feeney said. That fear was ruled out – the feds linked the property to one individual, whose behavior they are aware of. Feeney said the man, whose name was not released, is a former New York City resident. The items were buried just below the surface several years ago. Shown here: An Investigator makes his way towards the point of entry leading to the remote area where the items were found.
