Rail Advocates Study New Rail Cars

The Rockaway subcommittee of the Regional Rail Working Group will discuss the various types of rail cars that could be used on the Rockaway Beach Line. The meeting will be held at the Richmond Hill Library on Monday, June 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., which is located at 118-14 Hillside Avenue at Lefferts Boulevard.

The speaker will be Phil Strong, a rail consultant on passenger rolling stock, who is retired from the LIRR. George Maikalis, a civil engineer who developed the original plan to reopen the Rockaway line, will chair the meeting.

The subcommittee includes members of Community Boards 9 and 10 and transit activists from the communities of Queens. Herb Gormley of Belle Harbor and Norman Silverman of Bayswater represent the Rockaways. The meeting is open to all interested in better transportation.
