Meeks Hosts Ownership Fair

Residents of Congressman Gregory Meeks’ 6th Congressional district will be able to consult with several area banks and loan institutions at the Far Rockaway Homeownership Fair and Conference being held on Saturday, June 19, 2004.

Sponsored by the Fannie Mae, Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation and Margert Corporation, the homeownership fair is a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation with Ownership Wealth initiative for the 6th Congressional District, Queens.

Planned topics of discussion include: the importance of credit, finding an affordable home, preparing for home ownership and how to avoid predatory lending.

Participating companies include:  Countrywide, Fannie Mae, HSBC, Housing Preservation and Development HUD, JP Morgan Chase, NHS of Jamaica, North Fork Bank, Prudential Action Real Estate, Washington Mutual.

Meeks, who will speak at the conference said, "homeownership is often the first step on the journey to building wealth. I am very pleased that the sponsoring organizations and the participating financial institutions are providing this vital information on the home buying pro_cess to my constituents.

With both the Arverne and Edgemere Urban Renewal programs underway and the numerous other new home developments that have been taking place the past few years, it is critical that current Rockaway residents have an opportunity to own a piece of Rockaway’s revitalization."

Interested potential homebuyers can contact RDRC at (718) 327-5300, for more information and directions.
