Nurse

Winil Sarita Grant Borg, who lived in Rockaway for 10 years, died on
May 9.

Borg, who was born in London, England, worked as a nurse.

She is survived by a daughter, Siobhan Henderson.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in Rosedale. Disposition was at Belize City Cemetery, Belize City, Belize.

Paulette Cannon
Nurses' Aide

Paulette Cannon, a Rockaway resident for most of her live, died on May 26. She was 39.

Cannon, who was born in Brooklyn, worked as a nurses' aide.

She is survived by her children, Tarik and Chantel; mother, Ruby; brothers, Jeffrey, Jason and Kevin; Uncle, Raymond Scott; great aunts, Marie Allston and Madeline Peaks; significant other, Anthony Kemp; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home with a service held at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Rosehill Cemetery, in Linden, New Jersey.

John Collins
Brewer

John Collins, who lived in Rockaway for a decade or more, died on May 30. He was 79.

Collins, who was born in Trappe, Maryland, served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II. He worked as a brewer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearle V. Collins; and parents, Ida and Robert Lee Nixon.

Collins is survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Calverton National Cemetery.

Margaret Crudup
Dietician

Margaret Crudup, who lived in Rockaway for more than 15 years, died on May 9. She was 68.

Crudup, who was born in Charleston, West Virginia, worked as a dietician.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Delia Pennix.

Crudup is survived by her sons, Ronald and Ricky; daughter, Rosemary; sisters, Dora Pennix and Edna Clements; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Dispostion was at Oxford Hills Crematory, in Chester, New York.

Messiah Lovelady
Age 8

Messiah Lovelady was killed in a hit-and-run accident on May 12. He was 8 years old.

Lovelady, who was born in Nassau County, was a student, and attended the Outreach Church of God in Christ, in Lawrence, with his family.

He is survived by his parents, Douglas and Brenice Lovelady; siblings, Christina, Demmitt, Christopher, Aquines and Azaria Lovelady; as well as many cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at St. John's Baptist Church. Disposition was at Amityville Cemetery.

Edna Ursula Mapp
Lived 99 Years

Edna Ursula Mapp, who has family living in Rockaway, died on May 17. She was 99.

Mapp, who was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies, was a housewife. A number of her grandchildren live in Rockaway.

She was preceded in death by two children, Lucille Curvan and Horace Mapp.

Mapp is survived by her children, Eileen Rose, Cynthia Morris, Sheila Wesby, Jocelyn Lewis and Ena Newell; grandchildren, Randy Curvan, Jr., Allison, Gail, Keith and Colin Mapp, Sharona Cutrone, Charmaine Beaty, Garvin and Michelle Rose, Wendell Morris, Vanessa Robertson, Casandra Newell and Arden Lewis; nephews, Ronald Rose; nieces, Yvonne Harvey, Agatha Armorer and Althea Howell; 11 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sons and daughters in law; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at Springfield Gardens Chruch of the Nazarene, in Springfield Gardens. Disposition was at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, in Port Washington, Long Island.

Shaheem Earl Mays
Security Guard

Shaheem Earl Mays, a lifelong Far Rockaway resident who worked as a security guard, died on May 28. He was 21.

Mays is survived by his mother, Dorothy; father, Joseph; stepmother, Florence Nelson; brothers, Antonio and Maurice Johnson; Joseph Mays Jr., Jamel, Jerome and Joshua; sisters, Shneequa Johnson and Vaughniesha Hillard; nephews, Justice, JaVonte and Jamel Johnson, his girlfriend, Juanita; and other family and friends.

Eileen O'Laughlin
Retired Accountant

Eileen O'Laughlin, a Rockaway Point resident for nearly 50 years, died on June 3.

O'Laughlin, who was born in Kings County, was a parishioner at St. Thomas More Church. She was retired from her work as an accountant, belonged to the St. Thomas More Golden Age Club and was an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Donovan and is survived by her husband, Arthur O'Laughlin and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mary Frances O'Leary
Retired Association President

Mary Frances O'Leary, a Belle Harbor resident for more than 35 years, died on June 6.

O'Leary, who was born in the Bronx, was retired from her position as president of the Supreme & Surrogate Court Reporters Association. She was a past president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Anne.

O'Leary is survived by her sister, Bridget McMahon (William); nieces and nephews, Anne Curley (James), Bernadine McInerney (Kevin), Colleen McMahon Benisvy (Al), Danielle Mongelli, John McMahon (Erin), Michael McMahon (Jennifer). O'Leary was the great aunt of 13.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery.

Alberta Lynn Overstreet
Artist

Alberta Lynn Overstreet, who lived in Rockaway for most of her life, died on May 27. She was 21.

Overstreet, who was born in Queens, was an artist.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Overstreet Jr.; grandmothers, Leila Cann and Alberta "Mu" Mims; cousins, Ricky Backus and Tina Overstreet.

Overstreet is survived by her mother, Vera; siblings, Daryl, James and Sandra; aunts, Alice, Chester, Mary and Pam; great aunt, Elizabeth; niece, Shana; nephew, James Ian; and other family members and friends.

Katherine I. Pickering
Peninsula Hospital Registrar

Katherine I. Pickering, a registrar at Peninsula Hospital Center who was born and raised in Rockaway Beach, died on June 4.

Pickering, who had relocated to Oceanside, was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Pickering.

She is survived by her husband Robert "Bobby" M. Pickering; sons, Brian and Michael Pickering; a daughter, Colleen, Pickering; brother, Raymond Myers; and a sister, Eileen Schwan.

Gary Searls
Public Health Administrator

Gary Searls, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died on May 18. He was 50.

Searls, who was born in Jamaica, New York, worked as a public heath administrator.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Gary Jr., Tasha and Herman; brothers, Alfred Searls Jr., Larry and Gregory Searls and Michael, Thomas, Reginald and Eugene Jackson; sisters, Maria Gartrell and Lillian Baker; and other family members and friends.

Agnes F. Slevin
Retired Secretary

Agnes F. Slevin, an Arverne resident for nearly 50 years, died on June 6.

Slevin, who was born in Manhattan, was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Slevin; sons, William and John Slevin; sisters, Rita Cook and Madelyn Dunston; and brothers, Bernard Dunstan and John Dunston.

Slevin is survived by her daughters Joan Doherty and Sr. Kathryn Slevin, CSJ; and a brother, Raymond Dunston.
