Union, Residents Picket Dayton Brick Work

Union, Residents Picket Dayton Brick Work

Union workers had three inflatable rats and Dayton Beach Park residents carried picket signs alleging corruption, waste and kickbacks at another planned protest at 8200 Shore Front Parkway this Wednesday afternoon.

Workers from the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union 1 and Local 32 B-J blew whistles and stood in opposition to the use of non-union laborers working at 8100 and 8200 Shore Front. They were joined by a group of residents, who allege overspending on shoddy brick work. Residents chanted "The board must go! The board must go!"

100 Precinct police set up barricades and stationed numerous officers in anticipation of a large crowd. There were only about 35 protesters in all. A larger crowd of more than 100 union workers protested at the site last Thursday afternoon.
