Archbishop Molloy: A Year In Sports

On Monday May 24, Archbishop Molloy High School celebrated its 2nd Annual Student Athlete Award’s Night. Five Hundred and thirty-six awards were given to the athletes from 33 teams. Many of our hardworking Rockaway students/athletes are members of these teams.
Some 2003- 2004 Archbishop Molloy Highlights:
The Ice Hockey Team (18-2-2) were CHSAA City Champs defeating Holy Cross in the finals winning their first "B" division regular season championship. Sean Kearney (Senior Captain) who was named MVP of the CHSHL "B" League.
Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Bowling teams won the City Championships. The Golf team is 11- 1 heading to the playoffs and Varsity Boy’s Baseball team is 15 –3 in 2nd place heading into the citywide playoffs.
In Track, the Freshmen Boys won the Indoor & Outdoor City and BQ Sectional Championships, the Varsity and Girl’s were 2nd in the Outdoor BQ Champs. The sophomore boys won the outdoor diocesan champs. The girls won their first Indoor Brooklyn Queen Varsity Diocesan Championship and qualified to run at the Millrose Games. Freshmen girls won the BQ Cross Country Champs. Senior Ian Cassidy was ranked 6th in the nation and set the New York State Indoor Record in the Pole Vault at 15’ 9.25".
Basketball - The Varsity Girls (23-6) team won the New York State class "A" championships in Glens Falls, in their third Varsity season. The Varsity Boys (16-10) team reached the city quarterfinals.
The Freshmen Boys (15-8) team reached the city title game, and the JV team reached the second round of the CHSAA playoffs. The Girl’s JV were Diocesan finalists, finishing with a 20-4 record
Three athletes passed the 1000-point milestones this year: Sundiata Gaines (1585) Rosalyn-Gold Onwude (1262) and Jessica McEntee (1032).
The Varsity Boys Soccer team (9-0-2) won the Brookyln/Queens Championships and reached the semi-finals of the city playoffs. Our seniors compiled a 4-year regular season record of 38-2-4. Our JV team reached the semi-finals of the city playoffs before falling 1-0 to Holy Cross. Our Girls’ soccer teams continue to improve. The Varsity recorded wins against: Holy Trinity, St Dominic’s, St Joseph Academy, St Mary’s and Mary Louis. The Girls JV defeated St Francis Prep, St Mary’s and Mary Louis.
The Girls Varsity Softball team compiled a 15-6 record. The JV Girls’ finished with a 16-5 record with wins over every team in their division. The JV Boys Baseball team clinched the division with a 16-2 record and head into the playoffs as the top seed.
The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team had a 22-14 overall record with a record of 5-5 in league games. The Girls JV team with a record of 21-4 overall and a record of 10-2 in league games. They reached the semi-finals of the Diocesan Playoffs. The Handball Team won the "B" Playoffs.
Swimming – The Varsity Girl’s Team in only their second year of swimming went undefeated winning the Dual Meet Championship and capped off this spectacular year by also winning the Varsity City Championship.
The Varsity Boy’s finished 5th in the City Dual Meet League and finished 4th in the City Championship Meet.
Sundiata Gaines and Christina DelMaestro (V Softball Pitcher) won the Archbishop Molloy Senior Athlete awards. As a memento, all senior athletes received a Molloy watch for all of their hard work and dedication.

Connor, Kristin- (V Soccer, Softball, Basketball) – US Naval Academy Went 3 for 4 with 2 triples, a double and 3 RBI’s against St Agnes.
Cuismani, Katie- (V Soccer) – Mt. St. Vincent Defender.
Diffendale, Lauren (V XC/Track) U of Albany Ran 62.9 400 Meter Leg leading Molloy to qualify for the 2004 Millrose Games.
Hartigan, Maureen (V Soccer) Co-Captain Drew University. Capped of an impressive 4-year career by being awarded the Varsity Girls Soccer MVP at the AMHS Awards Ceremony.
Hurley, Sue (V Softball Co-Capt) Queens College – went 4-5 just missing hitting for the cycle against Christ the King.
Keenan, Patricia (V XC/Track) Catholic University Finish 3rd in BQ 3000 Meter Run – Ran a 2:33 800 Meter Leg on AMHS 1st sub 10 minute 3200 M Relay at the Indoor City Champs.
Kelleher, Jen- (V Basketball- Captain) – Middlebury College – scored 16 points and had 11 rebound against St Mary’s on NY State Championship Team.
Kelly, Dierde (V Swimming Captain) – Virginia- Helped team to its 1st City Championship in the 100 Yd breaststroke and freestyle relays.
Kimball, Jackie- (V Soccer – Co Captain)- Loyola- Starting Goalkeeper – recorded 2 shutouts.
Judge, Kevin- (Golf) Manhattan #3 player with 11-0 record – has shot 1 over par in the last six matches.
Roberts, Ryan- (V Baseball) Lafayette Hit .318 with 38 runs scored in 41 games in 2003 – Injured wrist this spring.
Elfant, Bryan- (V Hockey) Voted 3rd Team all CHSHL – Forward by the league coaches.
Fuchs, Brianne- (V Track) Threw the Javelin 82’
Kelly, Kenny- (V Basketball) Scored 10 points in the last 2 minutes against J.F.K.
Knee, Harrison- (V Hockey) Starting Goalie – Played every minute in Championship playoff series with Holy Cross.
MacSaveney, Alan- (V XC/Track) Placed 5th in the BQ Varsity Champs in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (11:32.0).
O’Neill, Katie- (V Swimming) Swam 100 Fly and 100 Back in 1:11).
Spadaro, Marisa (V Swimming) Swam the 500 Free in 6:27 and the 200 Free in 2:22.
Warren, Adlel- (V Track) Finished 4th in the Indoor Varsity Secional Champ running 10.6 over 55 Meter High Hurdles.
Biddiscombe, Alexandra- (JV Basketball) MVP Molloy Christmas Tournament – averaged 11 points a game.

Kelly, Katheleen- (JV Softball) Starting Left Fielder with 2 homeruns and threw out a girl at home from left field.
Killian, Patricia- (V Swimming) Swam 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.1.
Lee, Alyson- (V Swimming) Swam 100 yard backstroke in 108.34
O’Kane, Emily- (V Swimming) Swam 100 yard backstroke in 1:06.24
Ollquist, Clare (V Swimming) Swam 200-Yard Freestyle in 2:21.13.
Pastina, Katie- (JV Basketball) Captain averaged 15 points per game for two years.
Shields, Michael- (Track) Finished 4th in Soph. City Champs 400IH (63.3) ranks 2nd on AMHS all time Soph. Indoor 300 Meter list (38.5).
Boyle, Meghan (JV Soccer/JV Softball) Scored a soccer goal against St Mary’s on a long shot from the midfield.
Dawes, Kristina (F XC) Ran 14:29 for 1.5 mile course at Van Courtland Park.
Dombrowski, Dylan (F XC 9:54) /Track/JV Soccer) – Set New York State Catholic Indoor Freshmen Class Pole Vault Record – 11’7.25 – CHSAA City Champion and AMHS record holder in both PV and Javelin.
Doria, Rob (JV Baseball) Recorded save – striking out the side against McClancy with a 1-2-3-4 inning.
Edwards, Daniel (F Basketball /F XC 9:34)/Track/JV Soccer) BQ Freshman Champ in 3200 meters (10:56.9) – Third in City Champs 10:37.0.
Farragher, Thomas (Hockey) Defender on 2004 CHSAA City Champion Hockey Team.
Horan, Justin (F XC (10:08)/ Track) Finished 7th in BQ Frosh "A" XC Champs helping Molloy win Freshmen Team Championship.
Kelly, Morgan (F Basketball) Scored 26 points and had 14 rebounds against Holy Cross.
Lawrence, Domonique (Track) Ran a 29.5 200 Meter Dash at the St John’s Invitational.
Magee, Kelly (F XC/Track)- Ran 12:07 at BQ Frosh XC Champs, placing 7th overall leading Molloy to 1st Place Team Title.
McCann, Michael (JV Baseball)- Went one for two with a RBI at McClancy.
McGowan, Desmond (F XC/ Track)- Ran 2:38 on the 1st Place CHSAA Brooklyn Queens Championship 3200-meter relay.
O’Conner, Michael (Swimming) Won the IM at the CHSAA "B" Swimming Championships and swam 26.2 for the 50 Free.
Roberts, Kevin (JV Baseball/F Basketball) Starter on City Champ Runner-up Freshmen Basketball Team – Batting .400 with a .550 on base percentage on JV Baseball.
Werner, Kelly (Swimming/ Track) –2:46.06 Placed 8th in the 200 yd. I.M. (2:46.06) and 6th in the 100 yd. breastroke (1:18.47) in the GCHSAA Swimming Championships.
