Clinton Expected For BC Legion Parade

The Queens County American Legion, Department of New York will hold its 86 Annual Convention Parade in Broad Channel on Friday, June 11 at 7 p.m.

It is expected that Senator Hillary Clinton will be on hand to present a proclamation to each of the families of the men who died in the Korean War.

Prior to the start of the parade the post will conduct the concluding ceremony of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Korean War with awards that were not received last year. The ceremony will start at 7 p.m. at the All Wars Veterans Memorial at the 17 Road Park. Congressman Anthony Weiner will present the medal that each hero has earned to a family member.

The annual parade will start at 8 p.m. and march north on Crossbay Boulevard to the Post hall where there will be music, food and beverages. All Posts are requested to participate with their Color Guards.

Officials of the Legion have asked for the cooperation of the Broad Channel units as well as the volunteer fire department to "show the flag" as a reminder to Clinton that they support an amendment that would outlaw the burning of the American Flag in any occasion other than the destruction of an old and tattered banner. The Queens County Commander along with elected officials will present a plaque to the Sears Robuck Corporation in recognition of their employees who have been called to active military duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sears continues to pay the difference in salary and also includes their medical and bonus programs for up to 36 months.
