Memorial Day Takes Off With Angels, Flags and Heroes



This year’s Memorial Day weekend, although threatened by inclement weather, was a winner. Many local residents took a day to watch the Navy’s Blue Angels (above) perform at Jones Beach, wondering why Rockaway could not share in the show. The massed flags at Broad Channel’s Memorial Day ceremony on Sunday (left) showed the community’s pride for those who served their nation. In Rockaway on Monday, hundreds came out for the parade and ceremonies, which honored four servicemen just back from the war front in Iraq and Afghanistan (below).This year’s Memorial Day weekend, although threatened by inclement weather, was a winner.
