DEP Needs Your Help The Department of Environmental Protection is searching for volunteers for its Floatables Beach Surveillance program. Floatables are waterborne waste materials that float and include Styrofoam, balloons, fishing lines, raw sewage and medical waste. Volunteers will receive all materials necessary for the monitoring and it only takes about two hours a week to participate (especially after high tide). Volunteers don't have to pick up or touch anything; they need only report the debris on the beach. To help save turtles, birds, fish and other marine life from ingesting items, and making a cleaner beach call Robert Gams at 212-889-4216. |
