How Many Times Did You Try

To Do This At Rockaway’s Playland?

Hey there! How many times did you try to go all the way around in the Barrel of Fun, in the FunHouse, at Rockaway’s Playland? It wasn’t very easy, but yours truly did it once, and I found the proof, in a long lost package of family photographs. Watch it, Bubba! I just heard what you said!

What’s that? You say I’m full of it! Well, look closely and you will see my hat just beginning to slide off my head. If the picture was taken a split second later, my hat would have been caught falling, and off my head completely. It wasn’t easy – and I tried this many times until…

What’s that? You say you did it too! Show me a picture and I will believe you. What! You want me to produce a witness? Well, the next person that was with me is no longer around. Sorry! But the camera was an Exacta VX 1000, the film was Kodak Color ASA 400, shutter speed 1/250 @ F11, and the point of sharpest focus was 12 feet.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Now you want to know why the glasses are still on my lying face. Well, I had a strap holding them fast so they couldn’t slide.

Now, I ask you! Don’t you see the dungarees I have on have slid down as much as they cold? Ay! And my gut shifted a bit south as well. But, as usual, my Timex took a licking and kept ticking. The hardest part of the complete turn was to keep the side of my body from collapsing downward as the barrel turned to the left – the left side first and then the right.

The trick is to concentrate and focus on what you are trying to do, without letting anything or anyone distract you.

Now what? Whaa! You want to know why my feet aren’t in the picture? That’s so you don’t see the nails sticking out of the top of my sneakers!
