A group of P.S. 183 students have won the Music Memory Champions competition at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Five member panels of second, third, fourth and fifth grade students from around the five boroughs competed in the event. And P.S. 183 – won three events, with the third, fourth and fifth grade panels coming in first place.

At the event students were asked to identify up to 20 classic music selections played by the Riverside Symphony Orchestra. With only a few seconds of each piece of music played, answers were judged on correctness of title, composer, key and catalogue number. The third, fourth and fifth grade panels handed in perfect papers (100%) to win the contest. The program, under the direction of P.S. 183 teacher Martin Penzer, introduces classical music from the to students. The event includes American blues, jazz and theatre music.

Among the participating P.S. 183 teachers who helped with the program are Sheila Forem, Julianne Cerulli, Patricia Girgenti, Janet Chan, Deena Ortman and Catherine Peters.
