Jamaica Bay Little League Action Heats Up!

Jamaica Bay Little League Action Heats Up!

On Saturday, May 8, the 2004 Jamaica Bay Little League Rookie Division season got under way with the Channel Oil Mets taking the field against the George Russo, Esq. Athletics at Broad Channel’s Memorial Field.

The game was a pitcher’s duel, with the A’s scoring first in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Met infielders Kyle Steinhoff, Marty Robinson and Anthony Auletta turned some nice plays to keep it close until the Mets’ Austin Ramos hit a two run inside the park homerun in the bottom on the sixth to tie it up. The teams went into extra innings tied at 2-2 and that’s how it ended.

In Minor Division play, on Saturday, May 15th, the Miele Associates Mets outlasted the Sports Depot Yankees 15-10. Both starting pitchers, James Carricato for the Yanks, and James Miele for the Mets, struggled with their control over the first three innings and the lead changed hands several times.

The turning point came in the top of the third when, with the Yanks having already erased a six run deficit and threatening to take a big lead, Mets’ reliever Dom Delio was able to escape a jam leaving his team trailing by only one run at 10-9. Given the opportunity to retake the lead, the Mets used a two out rally in the bottom of the fifth to plate six runs. The rally was capped off by a run scoring double to left by Sean Abell that put the Mets up for good. Both games were very exciting and proof that "it aint over till it’s over".
