Annual Buckley’s To Kennedy’s Run Support The Troops

The oldest race of its kind in Brooklyn, the 24th Annual Buckley’s Restaurant (Nostrand Ave and Ave S) in Marine Park, Brooklyn to Riis Park in Rockaway Park, Queens will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2004. With a "Support Our Troops" theme, the run is to benefit Brooklyn-based HeartShare Human Services of New York.

The main sponsors of the run-whose participants have historically numbered as many as 700-consist of Jim Buckley, one of HeartShare’s board members for the past six years, along with his family, Buckley’s Restaurant, Gerard Casey, and Kennedy’s Restaurant in Breezy Point, Queens. The staffs of both restaurants volunteer a great deal of their time for the event, including cooking for the family picnic at Riis Park, which will be held the same day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The picnic is free to all runners; for the general public, nominal charges apply for admittance. Before May 20, the registration fee to run or walk in the run is $20; from May 20 to 23, the fee is $25. With $50 or more made in donations, both fees are waived.

Additional sponsors of the run include Budweiser, The New York Times Community Affairs Department, Plaza Auto Mall, Q104.3, and RAM Abstract of New York& New Jersey. For more information, or to register or volunteer for the run, visit www.buckley’scaterers.com or call HeartShare at 718-422-3215.
