The International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) has named Rep. Anthony Weiner, who represents parts of Rockaway in the House of Representatives, as their "Legislator of the Year".
The IBPO is one of the nation’s largest police unions.
According to the union, for the past six years, Congressman Weiner, a Member of the House Judiciary Committee, has led the fight to put more police officers on the street, and to equip them with cutting edge crime fighting technology.
He’s the sponsor of the Community Oriented Policing Services or COPS program, that’s provided $597 million to hire more than 7,000 police officers in New York City alone.
"I cannot think of an honor I would want more than to be recognized by the brave men and women who keep our streets safe," said Weiner. "I am humbled and deeply gratified."
