BCHS Boat Ramp To Reopen Today

BCHS Boat Ramp To Reopen Today

With $ 450,000 in funding put into the City capital budget by Councilman Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., needed repairs to the Beach Channel High School boat ramp have been made enabling the ramp to open for the summer season for boaters to use.

Addabbo announced that the ribbon cutting ceremony for the boat ramp will be held at Beach Channel High School, 100-00 Beach Channel Drive, on Friday, May 21, at 2 p.m.

The ramp, which had been open to the public for the last 30 years, was closed last year before the boat season began due to safety concerns. "I am thankful that the Department of Education has allowed this boat ramp to be used by the public", Addabbo stated.

The boat ramp has also been used by the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department to launch their rescue craft and is also a popular watercraft launching spot for area boaters.

Addabbo said his office received many calls from concerned constituents when the ramp was closed.  "I know how important it is to the community," said the councilman, adding, "It’s part of Rockaway life."
