BCHS Student Busted For Bringing Gun To School

By Howard Schwach

A 14-year-old student, who remains unidentified by police officials because of his age, was arrested on Wednesday for bringing a semiautomatic pistol and ammunition to Beach Channel High School.

According to police sources, the student showed the gun to a friend shortly after noon in the school cafeteria. The friend allegedly reported the incident to the school’s dean, who told one of the school’s safety agents.

Sources say that the unloaded gun was in one pocket while the ammunition for the gun was in another pocket.

The troubled high school has suffered a number of incidents requiring police intervention in the past few months.

In late March, two youths were arrested for possession of a gun at the school. In late April, there was a sexual assault in the school’s locker room when one student grabbed another by his genitals.

In Early May, a young man walking home from the school was beaten and stabbed by a group of Brooklyn youths, at least one of whom attended the high school. Just last week, nearly 1,000 BCHS students rushed through traffic to get to the beachfront at Beach 110 Street to witness a reported fight between to of the school’s students. Police arrived quickly on the scene and the fight did not take place. Students, however, remained on the beach and the boardwalk, tying up police response in other parts of the precinct.
