RBVL Teams Plan For 2004 Season

By Joe McGivney

The Rockaway Beach Volleyball League (RBVL) held its final and most important pre-season meeting at the Kerry Hills Pub on Wednesday, May 5. Everyone’s prompt arrival made for a smooth and timely gathering. Captains and representatives from nearly every team attended and took care of some very important league business.

Bugsy did a great job reviewing the 2004 rules, highlighting the new additions as well as covering some critical old items. League fees and rosters were collected and uniform orders were taken. A brief question and answer session followed. Everyone left the building anxious to get to the beach for some live volleyball action.

Since the meeting, the RBVL committee members have been huddled up in a windowless room drawing up the divisions for 2004. The RBVL goal remains the same as always – to have as many competitive matches as possible over the course of the summer season. We don’t like blowouts and we don’t like forfeits. We like as many exciting overtime games as possible.

Hopefully, everyone has already marked his or her calendars with these important dates:

5/26 – first practice night on the beach. Uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Nets will be available for everyone. This is also the first party night of the year so keep your schedule open. 6/2 - opening day. Play will continue every Wednesday until 8/9. If you have any questions during the week please call Patty Moule at 212-604-7087. You can leave a detailed message anytime at this number. See you on 5/26.
