The Rockaway Museum will celebrate its reopening with a gala fundraiser to be held at the Pier 92 Restaurant (on Beach 92 Street and Beach Channel Drive, behind McDonald’s) at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 13.

The museum, which has been closed for renovations and the development of a new exhibit, will reopen the following week with a "Playland Retrospective" exhibit that will evoke the heyday’s of Rockaway’s premier entertainment complex.

A minimum donation of $20 will be required for entrance to the Pier 92 fundraiser, which will feature music, libation, food and entertainment.

All funds collected will be used for the museum’s collection and for its outreach program with local schools.

Tickets to the fundraiser will soon be available from The Wave and from Breezy Point resident Grace at 634-8239.

The "Playland Retrospective" exhibition will feature many pictures, maps and artifacts that have not been in public view for years.

The Playland exhibit will join the highly-successful exhibit of pictures and memorabilia from the flight of the Navy’s NC-4 seaplane that took off from Rockaway in 1919 to become the first plane to fly across the Atlantic.

Those interested in tickets or in further information can contact The Wave.
