Rockaway Gasoline Prices Reach Record Heights

Gasoline prices at a number of gas stations clustered around Beach 116 Street set new prices last week, reaching highs not seen before on the peninsula. These pumps at the Exxon Station tell the story: $2.13.9 for regular and $2.27.9 for supreme. Experts say the jump in gas prices is due to the beginning of the summer season and the scarcity of product due to an OPEC restriction in production. Many legislators, including Senator Charles Schumer, say that the president should release America’s strategic reserves to lower the price at the pump.
