Homeward Bound Teen Beaten, Stabbed
A gang of teenagers, who allegedly beat and stabbed a 17-year-old Beach Channel High School student as he tried to make his way home after dismissal, were arrested on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Christopher Stephens was walking on Beach 98 Street between Rockaway Freeway and Beach Channel Drive at about 2:40 p.m. when five Brooklyn teenagers, some of them reportedly students at BCHS, attacked him, according to police. Witnesses said one of the teens pulled a knife and stabbed Stephens under his arm as the others repeatedly punched him.
The attack may have been part of an ongoing dispute, and the non-BCHS students may have been recruited for the attack, according to a police source.
Police from the 100 Precinct and Transit District 23 interviewed witnesses and got a description of the teens, who were found on Beach 80 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard minutes after the alleged attack. The teens were arrested by the 100 Precinct Anti-Crime Team, and were later identified by witnesses as the attackers.
Police said the teenagers, whose ages range from 14 to 16 years old, will be charged with gang assault. Their names were not released due to their age.
Stephens was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries was unclear.
