Johnny L. Deloatch
Johnny L. Deloatch Jr., a Rockaway resident for nearly 10 years, died on April 17. He was 84.
Deloatch, who was born in Margarettsville, North Carolina, belonged to the Washington Temple Church in Brooklyn. He was a brewery worker.
Deloatch is survived by a brother, Thurman, of Queens; sisters, Lunnie Dell Brown, of North Carolina, Marie Mitchell and Inell Daniel, of Far Rockaway; an aunt, Clara Deloatch, of North Carolina; favorite niece, Brenda Cherry; and other family members and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a service a Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory, in Chester, New York.
U.N. Corrections Worker
Lynn Marie Williams, who was performing peacekeeping/police duties for the United Nations in Kosovo, was killed on April 17. She was 48.
Williams, who was born in Jackson, Mississippi on January 22, 1956, was the second child born to Hazel Doris Jackson. She graduated from Hillcrest High School, and completed her bachelor of science in social work at Springfield College, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Williams was employed for a short time as a social worker for the City of New York, and she joined Brown Memorial Church of Hollis, Queens.
Williams worked for the New York City Department of Corrections as an officer, and retired after 20 years of service. For a number of years, she competed with family members and co-workers on a bowling league. She never missed the Police Olympics. Williams recently returned to Springfield and completed her first semester towards her master's degree.
Williams was preceded in death by a niece, JoAnn.
She is survived by her son, Joseph "Joey" Williams; grandson, Quentin; her mother, Hazel Moultrie; her father, Joseph Williams; four sisters, Brenda (Barry Moore), Sherrie Walker (Noel Campbell), Terrie and Samantha; a brother, Joseph "Lil' Joe" Williams III, an aunt, Annell Jackson; five nephews, Ramel, Anthony "A.J.," Willie Shawn, Justin and Philip; great niece, Janiaya; cousin, Michael Jackson (Cindy); other family members, friends and co-workers.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at St. John's Baptist Church in Rockaway.
